Benefits of University of Waterloo Scholarships include the following for the recipient:
A one-term study experience may be funded up to $2,500, a one-term work or volunteer experience may be funded up to $5,000, and a two-term work or volunteer experience may be funded up to $10,000 through the David Johnston–Lebovic Foundation International Experience Awards. For a maximum of six terms, the International Master’s Award of Excellence is valued at $2,500 per term.
Eligibility Criteria for University of Waterloo Scholarships
The following requirements must be satisfied in order for applicants to be eligible for University of Waterloo Scholarships:
- Required Languages: English
- Eligible Countries: All World Countries
- Candidates are eligible to apply for these scholarships if they have good academic standing (typically a minimum 70% average at the undergraduate level and a minimum 75% average at the graduate level).
In order to participate in an international experience in Israel, such as a volunteer placement, academic exchange, study abroad term tied to academic requirements, or a minimally paid or volunteer international co-op work placement, applicants must be full-time undergraduate and graduate students in any faculty. - International students enrolled full-time who possess a valid study permit in Canada and are charged international tuition.
- Typically assigned to students enrolled in research-based courses (major research paper, thesis).
- Usually reserved for students starting their first term of study (term 1.0).
- Students are required to meet the Faculty’s established criteria for academic excellence.
- Students must not have any unfulfilled probationary admission requirements and must fulfill the academic progress requirements of their program.
- Other internal or external scholarships (such as the OGS, UW Graduate Scholarship, etc.) may be awarded in addition to this one.Note that sponsorship and scholarships are not the same thing; see the following bullet.
- Generally speaking, students shouldn’t be fully or partially self-funded above the Faculty minimum levels of support, nor should they be concurrently receiving foreign government or agency sponsorship (e.g., China Scholarship Council, Libyan sponsorship, etc.).
- Nominations for an IMAE are not accepted from students who are grand-parented under the current IMSA program, but they are accepted from students who were previously awarded an IMSA for a master’s degree that they have completed.

- It is not necessary for students to submit a separate scholarship application as they will be automatically considered for this award based on their admissions application.
