The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, has stated that the need for those seeking election to public posts to have a minimum of a secondary school diploma or its equivalent is no longer in line with the reality of today's world.
As a result, he has proposed amending Section 131 (d) of the 1999 Constitution to enhance the minimum qualifications for anyone seeking elective public office.
According to the Speaker, the provision in the constitution was written in a different era and does not reflect current demands.
On Monday, he said this while delivering the University of Lagos' 52nd Convocation Lecture.
"Building Back Better: Creating a New Framework for Tertiary Education," is the title of the talk.
