Late Odumegwu Ojukwu delivered a speech in 1967 which ushered in the civil war that led to the death of millions of people. Ojukwu who declared Biafra Republic started the agitation which today has turned bloody as youths in Southeast are loosing their precious lives all because of the agitation. It was recently reported that the Nigerian Army killed Biafran National guard in Abia State who attacked military troops deployed to Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State.

As the agitation continues to claim the lives of Nigerian youths in Southeast, I decided to make some research and come up with what President Muhammadu Buhari said about the agitation so that a vast majority of them can embrace peace and live happily as one in Nigeria.

In 2017, the Commander In Chief of the Armed Forces, General Muhammadu Buhari said that he reached an agreement with Odumegwu Ojukwu that Nigeria must remain one and united.

When Buhari joined partisan politics in 2003 after the era of military rule, he had a discussion with Ojukwu who went to his hometown in Daura, Katsina State where they had a tête-à-tête. Ojukwu and Buhari rubbed minds together as they discussed on the problems facing Nigeria, and after everything, they came to the conclusion that the country must remain one and united.

Buhari's speech on the unity of Nigeria was published by Premium Times and as a way of corroborating it, I checked other news media.

What I could draw from what Buhari said in 2017 is that the unity of Nigeria is settled and not negotiable. It is high time Biafran agitators realized this so that the killings in Southeast would stop.

The agreement has long been reached with the man who came up with the ideology, it will be better if they douse the agitation now so that more lives will not be lost.
