President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday explained how Usman Alkali Baba was appointed as acting Inspector-General of Police. The president was fielding questions from State House correspondents on his arrival from London after a routine medical check-up.

The president said due process was strictly followed in the selection of the new IGP.

He said: “Well, we went through the system. There was a committee by the Minister of Police Affairs, they gave me some names and he happened to be the one chosen.

“He is aware of his task, he has been in it for a long time, he went thru all of the trainings; he has the necessary revel in. So, we've got a high expectation from him.”

Buhari again challenged the new service chiefs and the acting IGP to paintings diligently closer to meeting the expectancies of Nigerians

“Oh sure, they (provider chiefs) were inside the gadget all the way, they recognize what is inaccurate, they realize what's right and I assume they may be doing their first-rate. I wish their first-rate could be precise sufficient for Nigeria,” the president said.
