The IFFHS have released their official top 20 ranking of the greatest goalkeepers this century - and Gianluigi Buffon is the runaway winner.

Italy's 'Superman', still playing for Juventus at age 43, clearly topped the IFFHS (International Federation of Football History & Statistics) vote above Real Madrid legend Iker Casillas, who stands in second place.

The top 20 of keepers was calculated by taking into account every vote the IFFHS have done since the year 2000 - and Buffon was the only keeper to crack 300 points.

No surprise, as the 2006 World Cup winner is arguably the GOAT in his position - despite his infamous lack of a Champions League winners medal, pretty much the only thing Buffon has not yet achieved.

The highest Premier League goalkeeper on the list is former Chelsea and Arsenal star Petr Cech, who finished third overall.

But the top-placed current No 1 (as Buffon is not a regular starter at Juve now) is Bayern Munich and Germany stopper Manuel Neuerin fourth spot. Richly deserved.

Current Real Madrid keeper Thibaut Courtois makes up the top five, while Tottenham's Hugo Lloris (seventh), Manchester United's David de Gea (14th) and Liverpool's Alisson Becker (17th) also make the top 20.

Understandably, the list is dominated by ageing or retired greats. So it's to the credit of Brazilian No 1 Alisson - plus Jan Oblak and Marc-Andre ter Stegen - that they crack the list despite all being 28 years old, therefore not having as long to gather votes over the years.

The full IFFHS greatest goalkeeper of the 21st century list is below.
